Brief Description

The Sussex Arms is a quirky pub and their website needed to reflect that. Alltooeasy took photos to produce a series of panoramic shots of the pub, and we produced wooden backgrounds within the site to convey the homeliness, the firelit wooden cladding and cosy atmosphere of the pub. There is also a "thing" with clocks in this chain of pubs, so Alltooeasy developed a working Javascript clock for the site.

Their primary request called for a website that could organise and display their events as well as respond to online inquiries. Their business sector is driven by good customer relationships. To complement this, we added a calendar allowing them to add upcoming events, producing both specific pages and lightbox pop-ups for each event, which can simultaneously integrate the Facebook Like Button feature.

The promotional spaces on the homepage permit the addition and removal of graphics for special events, which automatically scale to the correct format and file size for each section. They can update their ale, sporting events and other events lists easily, as well as utilise a Twitter feed to operate local promotions in real time (e.g. advertising their pub quiz, which offers incentives for Twitter engagement). Alltooeasy additionally invested time in creating a custom content administration system such that adding content could be done on the fly.

The site has received a large number of inquiries for private events and gigs through the website, and they now have a number of high-ranking search terms related to local events in the area. Alltooeasy also helped train the website administrators in social media engagement, and we're delighted to see that their social media profile has grown dramatically.

Project Details

The Sussex Arms and its sister pub were originally going to form part of a wider deployment of networked Drupal 6.0 sites. Working in collaboration with Alltooeasy, we discussed and developed a strategy to combine a wide array of websites in the area that shared a common interest: in this case music and events. Both the Sussex Arms and its sister pub can be connected to a parent website. This means that updates to either The Ragged Trousers or The Sussex Arms would automatically populate the events listing for this are. Events added to the parent website could be syndicated to either of the pub sites, meaning the sites could effectively be managed from head office or individually. However owing to changes beyond our control, they elected to separate the systems.

Client Testimony

"The design of The Sussex Arms website has been laid out well, and I find it incredibly user-friendly. The division of the home page into events, promotions and sports feed creates an easy reference front page with individual links to different areas of the site. Association with a local music venue (with calendar, ticket info and the ability to link to music websites and videos) has given visitors the ability to try before they buy, so to speak. In addition, the real ales block has been particularly helpful in keeping our ale-drinking clientele informed as to when their favourites are on tap. Being busy with the general management of multiple units, my time can become quite scarce. So the ease of use means I don't have to spend too much time updating everything on a weekly basis. We have received several inquiries through the site resulting in the hire of our private function room for events, and the Twitter feed has been a useful tool for enticing people down for last minute events and sports."
